Install the hardware:
Install PortVision DX.
Program the network information (IP address) into the DeviceMaster (DeviceMaster DM-2000 series, DeviceMaster PRO, DeviceMaster RTS, or DeviceMaster Serial Hub) using PortVision DX.
If necessary, update SocketServer. Check the SocketServer version on the DeviceMaster against the latest released version.

There are three basic types of installations depending on the requirements for your environment. You may want to configure the DeviceMaster serial ports for more than one purpose.

NS-Link COM port device driver
NS-Link tty port device driver
TCP/IP socket port (SocketServer, which is the default application loaded on the DeviceMaster)

NS-Link COM Port Driver Installation Overview

Use the following procedure to install NS-Link COM ports.

Make sure that you have performed the appropriate steps in the Before Configuration subsection.
Locate the NS-Link driver and then install the NS-Link device driver.
Perform the following steps in the Comtrol Drivers Management Console:
1. Associate the MAC address of the DeviceMaster.
2. Configure the DeviceMaster device properties.
3. Configure the serial port attributes for the NS-Link driver.
Optionally, configure one or more ports for socket mode.
Connect the serial devices. Open the DeviceMaster Installation and Configuration Guide if you need cabling information.

TCP/IP Socket Port Installation Overview

Make sure that you have performed the appropriate steps in the Before Installation subsection.
Configure the serial port attributes using the SocketServer web page.

Note
If required for your site, configure security in SocketServer.
Connect the serial devices. Open the DeviceMaster Installation and Configuration Guide if you need cabling information.
