DeviceMaster Modbus/TCP Installation Overview

If you are not familiar with installing the DeviceMaster UP, you can use the following overview or the appropriate Modbus/TCP User Guide.

[Note]
Note

The Modbus/TCP firmware does not support the DeviceMaster UP 16-port.

  1. Install the hardware.

  2. Install PortVision DX so that you can easily configure the network information.

    [Note]
    Note

If you have previously installed PortVision DX you may want to verify that you are running the latest version. PortVision DX is continuously updated with new features and added support for the latest hardware model releases.

  3. If the DeviceMaster UP contains Modbus/TCP, you should verify that it is the latest version before configuring the serial characteristics. If a new firmware version is available, upload the firmware to the DeviceMaster UP.

  4. Refer to the interface programming information and the sample PLC programs for Modbus/TCP.

  5. Configure the DeviceMaster UP port characteristics for your environment using the embedded web pages on the DeviceMaster UP.

There are two ways that you can access the embedded web pages:

    • Open PortVision DX, right-click on the appropriate DeviceMaster UP unit and select Webpage.

    • Open your web browser and enter the IP address of the DeviceMaster UP.

The Interface Configuration Quick Start provides detailed procedures for read-only serial, read-only Ethernet, or read-write devices. For detailed information about the web pages, refer to the Modbus/TCP User Guide.

  6. Connect the serial devices to the DeviceMaster UP using the DeviceMaster UP | DeviceMaster MOD Hardware Installation and Configuration Guide.
